Nata Pramanit/Relationship Certificate – Nepal

Nata Pramanit, or a relationship certificate, is proof of relation among your family members. Personally, I’ve required this to study abroad, but it might be necessary for other things as well. Whatever is your reason, here are the details on it:

A nata pramanit can be obtained from your VDC or municipality. As someone residing in Saraswati Nagar, near Chabahil, in Kathmandu, I obtained mine from Boudha’s office, near Pipalbot.

What it can look like:

What documents you require:

  1. Citizenship cards of ALL immediate family members
  2. Photographs of ALL immediate family members
  3. Receipt for tax payment
  4. If parents are not from the same district (according to your citizenship), you need some proof that they’ve moved districts (‘basai sarai’).

The process:

  1. Take a nata parmanit form wherever they’re kept. It’s in Nepali. Fill it up or pay someone to fill it up for you. If you’re visiting the Boudha office, the form is on the desk on the first floor, and there is a photocopy shop right below on the ground floor, where the man will fill the form for you. You also need the photocopies of all of the citizenship cards, tax receipt (and basai sarai document).
  2. After this, go to Room no. 1 (or wherever you’re directed), where a man will check the documents and sign it for you.
  3. You take the signed document to the computer room or wherever he directs you. There will be someone to take your compiled form and documents. S/He will type out the details on the computer on a format (like given above) in English, and you will have to confirm the names, etc. You’ll then be handed the printed nata pramanit document.
  4. You take this print along with the compiled form and documents to the same room in step number 2, and the same man will recheck your documents.
  5. Then you take the checked documents and head over to the counter where you must pay the fee (I paid 510 rupees.) You’ll be then given a receipt.
  6. Take the documents and the receipt to the room where you get them stamped. The person will take your compiled documents and forms, and s/he will stamp your pramanit document. You’re now done!

In my opinion, getting this document was not a very difficult process. It happens all on the same day, provided you have all the documents.

NOTE: PLEASE DON’T MISS OUT ON ANY REQUIRED DOCUMENTS AS YOU WILL NOT GET WHAT YOU CAME FOR. NO ONE WANTS TO HEAR YOU COMPLAIN AFTER YOU’VE NOT BROUGHT THE DOCUMENTS YOU WERE SPECIFICALLY ASKED TO.
